Humans who have no connection to manna. They cannot use magic or sense manna, but they're highly ingenuitive and have made massive technological advancements over the centuries, particularly in magitech to make up for what abilities they don't have naturally. While they lack in magical inclination, they tend to be more physically capable than other races of human. They're both more durable and stronger than maya, though denera can often rival the fortitude of the lequera depending on how pure their blood is. The lequera are the most populous race and have immense sociopolitical power, dominating all levels of government and law enforcement.
The maya are a race born of Implanta, the great tree of life. When Implanta brought manna into the world, certain humans were naturally inclined to receive it into their bodies and became able to harness its power through their wills. As such, manna has shaped the very foundation of their lives, keeping them youthful and healthy, and allowing them access to the full spectrum of magic (elemental, healing, and summoning). They tend to be very atune to nature due to their extreme sensitivity to manna. Maya are often reclusive and disinvolve themselves from human society, sticking to their independent village of El Shefra.
The denera are the children of lequera and maya and can have a varying distribution of lequera and maya blood flowing through their veins. Their lives are sustained by manna, but because their blood is impure, they have less access to manna than their maya counterparts and therefore eventually age and die. Their lifespans can range between 150 and 800 years, depending on how strong their lequera blood is. In almost all cases, a denera can only use one type of magic (elemental, healing, or summoning). They face heavy persecution by both lequera and maya, and are often cast out of society entirely or relegated to servile positions, with few opportunities for social or financial success.
Angels are inorganic lifeforms who are artificially created by use of an evolved form of exsphere known as a high exsphere. All races of humans have the potential to become an angel. By attaching an exsphere to one's flesh, they can then undergo the angel transformation, a painful process that slowly strips away the basic functions necessary for life as the person's body becomes inorganic and static, unchanging and lifeless. An angel does not need to eat or sleep, and they cannot feel pain; on the other hand, the angel gains access to immense strength and enhanced sight and hearing. Angels also gain innate access to light magic, which includes healing magic. The angel transformation cannot be undone once started, as the soul of the angel becomes inexorably bonded with their exsphere.
Once an angel is created, the individual will still have access to all of the abilities their race possesses innately, but they will also gain dominion over light magic. Angels are also sensitive to manna at the same level as most denera (though maya who become angels will be more sensitive to manna).
Spirits are composed of mostly elemental manna while also possessing semi-organic bodies. They are able to command the element from which they were created to a near-perfect extent. While they can inhabit corporeal, humanoid forms, they are also able to exist as their element without a physical body, shifting between the two forms at will because in a way, they are one and the same.
According to the mythologies of the world, spirits are the reincarnations of deceased souls, made immortal by Implanta. Because they are made of manna itself, they are quite intrinsically tied to the great tree. Spirits exist in abundance and can be found almost anywhere—especially congregated around a wellspring of manna. A spirit can also be contracted by someone who possesses summoning magic and can therefore be summoned at will to do their master's bidding.
The pact between a summoner and their spirit hinges upon an oath made by the pact-maker—So long as that oath is upheld, the bond between the two remains unbreakable. The bond itself links both of their souls together, allowing them to utilize each other in ways unique to them: Summoners can use the spirit's body and manna at will, therefore allowing them to hold command over the spirit's element, and the spirit can inhabit the body and mind of the summoner and gain s trength from their bodily manna. The bond allows the two to share their souls, and therefore each other's pain and emotion. If the two are separated for long, they both risk severe psychosomatic injury and even death.
All spirits are functionally immortal, they can be killed due to their semi-organic bodies. They are able to eat and sleep, but their relationship with such actions are vastly different from fully organic beings, and they don't need to partake in them as often.
Spirits live out their lives in various ways. Some choose to live in houses or even small villages of their own making, but some choose to exist in a way that more closely aligns with that of greater spirits. Due to their semi-organic nature, they must interact with the world at least occasionally, but some choose to set foot in the world only out of necessity, while others choose to make it their home.
