Things that Change

Asch: —Lightning Blade!

Luke: Fang Blade!!!

Asch: Too easy!

Luke: Gh! Yeah, well same for you!

Asch: Took my bade. Take this!

Luke: ...Guh!

Natalia: Are... are you all right? The intensity of this seems a bit much for a little sparring match...

Guy: Yeah, jeez. When I heard you guys were going at it, I rushed over here to see for myself... Looks like I made the right call not to leave you guys alone.

Asch: Hmph, is that all you’ve got? I thought you’d gotten careless, and would you look at that. Get up already!

Luke: You just hit my funny bone, that’s all! Here I go! Gaaaahhh!

Asch: ...! Charging right at me, without even thinking about how stupid that is... Fine, bring it on!

Natalia: It’s a really close match; neither of them will be outdone...

Guy: Yeah. But Asch has a slight advantage here. At this rate—

Asch: Hahhh!!!

Luke: Eek! Whoaaaa!

Guy: You okay, Luke?!

Natalia: Are either of you hurt?!

Guy: Hey, c’mon. Don’t you think you’re taking things too far for a practice session?

Asch: You think this is too much? You’re as soft as ever, Guy. Last time we went at it was worse than this. Luke held his own better then, too.

Luke: Seriously?! Dammit... my sword feels weirdly heavy today. Maybe it’s the weather?

Asch: What kind of excuse is that, idiot? This is because you got lazy.

Guy: —Huh? Wait a sec. Last time? Does that mean you guys are doing this regularly?

Luke: Yep. Didn’t I tell you? I mean, we both were taught swordsmanship by the same master. That makes us perfect for sparring, right?

Asch: Perfect, my ass. Try putting yourself in my shoes for once. I’m the one who has to deal with you.

Luke: Yeah, yeah, I really appreciate it. But anyway, I’m having a harder time figuring out your next move than I was before. I’ve been trying to focus on all the things you were nagging me about, though.

Asch: Hmph... you’ve still got a ways to go. Stop getting so full of yourself. Whenever you learn something, it goes in one ear and right back out the other. Just build up your muscle memory and keep practicing your swings like your life depends on it.

Luke: Aye-aye, Master Asch.

Guy: I guess you guys are fine then; no need for me to worry. But you really should do something about the way you talk...

Natalia: Hehe... But they look like they’re having fun at least—Luke and Asch both. I never thought the day would come where they’d be sparring together like this.

Asch: Who’re you calling master?! Just the thought of being your teacher makes me wanna throw up! Whatever, let’s just get on with it!
