Mithos: ...So you’ve come to see the Giant Kharlan Tree yet again. You sure have a lot of free time.
Yuan: What is that supposed to mean? Do you have business with me?
Mithos: ...Yeah. I wanted to ask you something. Did you become the Giant Tree’s Guardian?
Yuan: I didn’t think you’d want to hear about the world I come from.
Mithos: When I was back in the Empire, I had a talk with Richter. I can already guess what my fate will be, so I don’t really care about the future at this point.
And besides, the future you and Richter lived in isn’t the same one I’ve experienced. So the world where I win hasn’t yet disappeared, right?
Yuan: ...I suppose so.
Mithos: ...Sigh.
Yuan: What is it?
Mithos: You’re not difficult to figure out. Just by saying that, you admit that you live in a world where I lost.
Yuan: Agh... N–no, I didn’t mean anything by—
Mithos: It’s fine. That’s not why I came to talk to you.
Anyway, answer my first question. Why did you become the Guardian of the Giant Tree? Was it because you had nowhere else to go?
Yuan: ...No. I chose it for myself. I wanted to protect the Tree that had just germinated.
Mithos: The new Tree isn’t called Kharlan anymore, is it? What’s its new name?
Yuan: I cannot say, even if we are in another world.
Mithos: Stingy.
Yuan: I made a pact. Forgive me.
Mithos: So it’s Yggdrasill—or something like that.
Yuan: You think we’d name the new Tree after you? What an impudent brat.
Mithos: It’s also my sister’s name, though.
Yuan: Th–that’s true. It’s a nice name.
Mithos: Well, any name will do. I just had a feeling... it could be that. But I wouldn’t mind if it were called Gonzales or something.
Yuan: What kind of name is that? Where did you even pull that from?
Mithos: —Yuan. Have you found a place for yourself in that world?
Yuan: !
...Yes. I have, along with Raine and Genis.
Mithos: The other half-elves, too?
Yuan: Things don’t change overnight. But I believe that with time, they’ll find a place to put down their roots and companions of other races whom they can open their hearts to.
We can go anywhere we like.[1]
Mithos: You’re right. That’s exactly how it is. I wish I could have seen that world—the one where things turned out like that.
